Halloween might just very well be the perfect remedy for curing those ‘summer time ending’ blues. And with Walt Disney World’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party starting August 17th and running to October 31st, there is plenty of time to get in the Halloween mood.
So don’t mind us if this #MoodMonday seems a little premature. But… we can’t help it. I’ll even be the first to admit to squealing my delight in seeing the pumpkins arrive on Main Street during our last trip to the Magic Kingdom on August 14th.
If you have been following along with us since the beginning you already know this is one of my (Arianne) favorite events to attend at Disney each year. If you have just found us… first off… Welcome! We are so glad to have you join our crazy Disney Adventures. Second… I have gone to the Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party almost every year since it started in 1995.
Yes, I’ve collected lots of candy in that time. I only state this to explain why I am a self proclaimed “Halloween at Disney” fan. My oldest daughter doesn’t call me Lady Pumpkin Head for nothing. I’ve experienced all the things this party has to offer over the years. All while being decked out in a full floor length Cruella DeVille coat. Or just sporting a party shirt and pumpkin Mickey ears (hence the name Lady Pumpkin Head).
And well… pretty much everything in between.
Every year we try to experience the special offerings exclusive to the party including trick-or-treating, the Boo To You Parade, Hallowishes, the dance party, getting our SOMK party card, catching the last Hocus Pocus Villain Spectacular show of the night, watching the Headless Horseman ride throughout the park, and lets not forget the really cool Magic Shots Disney Photopass has just for the party.
We love walking through the parks checking out all the spooky decor and seeing rare characters. Or even just meeting a few regulars decked out in their Halloween Costumes.
For an event that is in its 23rd year. (Boy does that make me feel old) we are so excited to experience this party in a way we never have before. And we are talking about ride layovers for the Halloween season. Disney has done this many of times for the Christmas season (Country Bears and Jungle Cruise) and for a few rides at Disneyland. This year will be a first at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween party. Not to mention… the Food and Beverage team for the parks/ special events keeps upping their game each year. To quote Clawhauser from Zootopia “O… M… Goodness!” did they deliver with some spooktacular treats this year. We can’t wait to sink our teeth into a few of them.
It goes without saying our ‘Wish List’ of what we want to do at each year’s party keeps growing. So without further delay our list of NEW things we want be sure to experience this year.
2018 Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party Wish List
- The Mad Tea Party – A new spin on one of our favorite attractions with the addition of colorful new lighting, effects, and music.
- Pirates of the Caribbean – where Pirates have invaded the attraction interacting with guests who are sent on a quest to search for “Gunpowder Pete.”
- Space Mountain – Takes on a whole different meaning of Deep Space as the lights are turned off, a new soundtrack is added, and special effects transform this classic ride.
- Storybook Circus Disney Junior Jam – a dance party featuring some of our favorite Disney Junior Characters including Doc McStuffins. Perfect for our little ones to dance the night away.
- Party Exclusive Treats including: Hades Nachos, Madame Leota Dessert, Warm Caramel-Stuffed Pretzel, Apple Cider, and the Maleficent Dessert.
With all these things on our list, we are just counting down the days to get our spooky on. Now that we know what we want to do at the party, we just need to figure out what we are going to wear. Are you heading to the party this year? If so, what are you looking forward to doing or (better yet) eat? Let us know!
